We are looking back to our recent webinar in the Hubs4Circularity Community of Practice series, “H4C Community of Practice Webinar “Creating and accessing R&D facilities”.

During the webinar on 20th June 2024, Maurice Olivers introduced Brightlands Circular Space, an international co-creation centre for circular plastics in Sittard-Geleen (NL). The centre is a joint venture of Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO, offering entrepreneurs, researchers and consortia an advanced environment and expertise for research, development, analysis, as well as testing and scaling up for the reuse of plastics.

Maurice explained that the centre’s mission is to accelerate the circular use of plastics in society so that plastics are reused as often as possible on an industrial scale as a raw material for new products. For this purpose, a fully circular, open access demonstrator is being implemented over the next few years. It will be a place to meet and innovate for the development of circular plastics. Entrepreneurs, researchers and consortia can lease state-of-the-art facilities for the co-creation of new earnings models, solutions to issues such as the sorting and pretreatment of used fossil plastics as well as opportunities to develop and test new materials and recycling technologies. They offer companies the opportunity to grow and expand here.

We are looking forward to further exchanges between Brightlands Circular Space and the Hubs4Circularity Community of Practice and are excited to follow the development of the demonstrator.
